  • Conducted by Federico Cortese, Music Director of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras

The Music

Barber: Adagio for Strings
Full of passion and catharsis. Often played in times of mourning, it was broadcast over the death announcements of Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Princess Diana.

Debussy: La mer
Subtle and impressionistic. This work has inspired composers from Toru Takemitsu to Nine Inch Nails.

Franck: Symphony in D minor
Vivid and robust. Composed in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian war, this piece was highly controversial for its embrace of both German and French traditions.
